Experience the slow life with a carefree solitary journey

The pleasure of traveling without a plan

When you think of travel in Nakafurano, the bustling lavender fields in summer may come to mind, but did you know that you could also spend a quiet, relaxing time in the town? With the long distances involved in traveling around Hokkaido, you may find it appealing to have your own favorite spot where you can just chill out and do nothing if you so wished. Imagine how it would feel. You wake up unhurriedly in the morning and spend hours in the hotel or inn absorbed in your favorite book. It might seem like a waste of a day on your trip, but you’ll be surprised at how energizing and fulfilling it can be.

The comfortable accomodations in Nakafurano will feel just like home.

A tranquil experience of Japanese tea

If you feel like taking a rest from your book, why not go for a tea break… with a Japanese tea ceremony. At Omotesenke Tea Ceremony Class Chacha, you can experience the Omotesenke style of preparing green tea. Enjoy two different kinds of green tea and seasonal Japanese sweets, all in the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese room decorated with a kakejiku scroll and an ikebana flower arrangement.

The sensei will teach you the basic etiquette of Japanese tea ceremony.
The sweets, the plates, the flowers all reflect the beauty of the current season.
The tea ceremony experience costs \2,000 for 2 hours (additional 200 yen during winter). Advance reservation required. Minimum 5, maximum 15 participants per class.

A quiet lunch at a cafe surrounded by rustic scenery

When you get hungry, you can go for a short drive to a nearby cafe. In Nakafurano, you can find an elegant cafe situated in the middle of a farm field. Built on a renovated Japanese house, the spacious interior is filled with antique tables and chairs and an inviting counter. You might have a hard time choosing where to sit.

The lunch set includes homemade bread and various dishes made with local vegetables.
Enjoying the meal and the nice weather at the terrace table.

Relax in an open-air bath with a view

A trip to Hokkaido won’t be complete without experiencing one of the natural hot springs in the island. In Nakafurano, the onsen is hypotonic and weakly alkaline, with a tinge of yellow. At the open-air bath, you can rejuvenate your body while admiring a view of the Tokachidake mountains under the sunset or starry night sky.

Day trip baths at Spa & Hotel Resort Furano La Terre cost 980 yen for adults and 500 yen for children (age 4 to 12). Includes small towel and bath towel.
Taking a long, warm bath can help soothe your body for a good night’s sleep.

Rolling hills bathed in the sunset glow

Before retiring to your lodging place, take a short drive to a secluded spot to enjoy a great view of the sunset. While sunsets are easy to take for granted in our busy lives, taking the time to watch one in the countryside can be a truly uplifting experience.

Always observe traffic rules and respect private property when stopping along the farm fields.

Under the glow of a star-filled night sky

Away from the bright lights of the town, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sky filled with countless stars. Take a deep breath of the crisp air and enjoy the perfect end to a day that will surely be a long lasting memory.

Listen closely and you might hear the sounds of the insects and other animals in the nearby forests.
